Tesla roadtrip to Cairns. Arrived Hervey bay on 24%, overnight charge at Kay's parents home to 60%. Take them for a spin. Hit the road again and top up in Childers. Bailed by deputy mayor wanting to know what we thought of the charging infrastructure. Off again after resetting the display, 2nd time in 2 days. Arrived GinGin and tried to back into charger park. Now reverse is forward! Not helpful, tried 4 times until the nose was touching a bollard!. Called Tesla, "be forcefull on the throttle pedal", she says. Will you cover any damage says me! Ahhh hold on while i consult says she. I could not find a brick so i used brake plus throttle, yay reverse works. Now the charger station says "Faulty". Off to get lunch. Now app says charger is ok, put Jazzy on charger, yay!

Today brings it up to 940km for $33.50. This would have cost $123 in the Subaru. No problem finding and using the Chargefox / RACQ sites, and they charge fast. The longest today was 31 mins, while we ate lunch.

Since buying a Tesla a comment I have heard a few times is that it is not making a difference because the electricity comes from coal fired power stations. So I am still "burning" a fossil fuel. While this is true it ignores the difference between the efficiency of petrol cars V electric cars. It also ignores the difference in efficiency of the grid versus trucking petrol around in tankers on the roads. This adds up to a big reduction in CO2 emissions per km I drive. It also …

I was looking at this old mine when a swarm of bees decided to make it their new home. For 5 minutes the air was thick with them and then they all landed and entered.

We have reached Cape Tribulation. We recharged the Tesla at the motel last night, just using a standard 240v outlet.

The beautiful view from our beach front cabin at Kurrimine Beach.
Shame about the weather!? It’s blowing a gale, overcast and trying to rain.
We must be at the beach. It seems to be the trend.

First cassowaries we’ve ever seen in the wild. There were two of them but, by the time I got the phone out for the photo, I only got one in a really bad pic. They were crossing the road near Bingil Bay

Sometimes you turn down a side road, follow a sign etc and you get a real treat. Some of our best experiences while travelling have been found by chance. Murray Falls is pretty amazing.

Does anyone have any idea what this is? They are beside the Bruce Highway. At regular intervals, about 5km between, all the way to Cairns. No visible sensor except for the black plastic hemisphere on top of the metal cabinet. No visible antenna, but it could be inside the plastic cap on the pole. No branding, no numbers. About 100w of solar. I assume it a TMR project. It would have had a budget of millions.

Two of todays charging points. One at Miriam Vale the other, a rare destination charger at Agnes Waters. We are on the home stretch now. Still enjoying the trip, but will be glad to get home.

We are back home again. Our last recharge was at Gympie on a Tesla Supercharger. These pour in around 2 to 3 times the power compared to the Chargefox / Tritium chargers. This means most charging sessions will be 20 mins or less. We just need more of them in Qld.

I ran the numbers. We spent $186 on charging fees for the Tesla. The petrol would have cost around $700 for the distance travelled, so we saved around $500.
